The Annual General Meeting of the CLDSA is an evening when CSLDA members gather together to celebrate the achievements of their members, over the past season. It is an evening of celebration and connection for swimmers of all levels. From the Ultra-elites, to Open Water novices, this is an evening for all.
During the evening the chairperson, Tracey Steyn, reported back on a year of incredible swimming. She covered the 337 ratified swims of the season and encouraged members to continue to ratify their swims going forwards, slowly but surely building a thorough database of all the Open Water Swims completed by local swimmers.

The AGM is an evening to celebrate and recognise all the brave and determined swimmers who make up the Open Water Swimming Community, you can see a video of all their achievements below: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/kcL4nmlMSK8 And with thanks to our photographer, Dylan Le Roux, we have a collection of photographs from the night. Medals and Special Awards
Medals and awards are presented to swimmers at the end of each season. Medals are awarded according to specific categories on officially observed and recognised CLDSA routes. This year an outstanding number of medals were presented in both the wetsuit and skins categories:
- Bronze Medals: Swims under 10km
- Silver Medals: Swims between 10km and 30km
- Gold Medals: Swims 30km and over
The special awards are for outstanding achievements by swimmers and you only have to look at the history written on these cups to see how the bar just keeps being raised.
- Jantzen Cup: Fastest Millers Point to Fish Hoek, presented to Renee Prinsloo and Ronon O’Rahilly who completed the swim in 3h15.
- Barney Cemel Veterans Trophy: Presented to Karen Kennedy, who completed a Quadruple Robben Island this year. She is a coach and mentor. Often giving of her time freely behind the scenes.
- Peter Bales Trophy: For Tenacity presented to Tracy Jannesch for her Robben Island crossing in 6h17. Tracy is partially sighted. And is supported by an amazing swimming pod of women.
- Warrington Brokers Trophy: The ‘Gees’ Trophy, presented to Yolanda Carstens, for her achievement of the Triple Crown in just over a month at the age of 60.
- Orca Trophy Outstanding Wetsuit Swim of the Year, presented to Chris Oldnow and Peet Crowther, for their incredible double False Bay Swim.
