Meet the 2025/2026 Summit Swimmers
The CLDSA Summit Programme was created to sponsor and mentor developmental swimmers to complete their first Robben Island Crossing. Each year members of the CLDSA are called to nominate swimmers to the programme. The Summit Swimmers are provided with access to swimming resources, specific training and an introduction to the swimming community at large.

This year we have three Summit Swimmers, that have been training hard through the summer months and all almost ready to swim their Robben Island Crossing.

Summit Swimmer: Pumza Kobus from Cape Town
Nominated by: Salome Thonnard
Expected Swim Date: March 2026
Pumza is a proud grandmother of two boys. She started swimming for the first time during the Covid lockdown. She has always dreamed of completing an Ironman triathlon and to that end has run the Comrades and cycled the Cape Town Cycle Tour several times. I joined the Topaz swim buddies in Blouberg to improve my swimming skills, and they encouraged me to dream about the Robben Island Crossing. Pumza, you are an inspiration to us all and we wish you the very best with your Crossing.

Summit Swimmer: Sanele Jacobs from Cape Town
Nominated by: Se7en
Expected Swim Date: February 2026
Sanele is a dedicated lifeguard, and water coach. He enjoys teaching learners about ocean safety and ocean conservation. While he is a competent swimmer and coach, he sees the Robben Island Crossing as an opportunity to challenge himself and to inspire others. He is drawn to the Robben Island Crossing, for its rich history, its cultural significance and the physical and mental demands that it requires. Sanele, your enthusiasm is such an inspiration, we are so excited for your swim.

Summit Swimmer: Mlungisi Zuma from Ladismith
Nominated by: Eleanor Schweizer
Expected Swim Date: February 2026
Mlungisi is an Open Water Swimmer that sees his swimming journey as a reflection of his life’s struggles. As he has grown in determination and strength to overcome difficulties he has found his home in the swimming community. Meeting people that he would never have otherwise met, swimming has taught him that the water is a place of connection and freedom. With his Robben Island crossing, he would like to inspire more people from all walks of life, to embrace Open Water Swimming, and see that swimming belongs to all of us. Mlungisi we wish you calm seas and wonderful swim, and look forward to your swim.
The CLDSA would like to thank those members that have sponsored the Summit Swimmers, and a special thanks to Michelle Webber and Wave Workouts, for the Open Water Training and Big Bay Events for their safety and support on the day.
