Help for Shark Boy

7 March 2022

Appeals have gone out to help the family of Achmat Hassiem, who suffered a brain injury after surgery on his spine last September. Doctors believe his brain has undergone too much damage and he will likely remain in the current condition he is in. The family needs financial support to help create a “mini hospital” for Achmat at their home.

After losing a leg fighting off a shark to save his younger brother at Muizenberg, Achmat then went on to represent South Africa at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Paralympic Games. He won the bronze medal in the 100m butterfly event in 2012.
