Swim Application
You must be an active CLDSA member to book a swim. Complete an individual swim application for each solo/relay swim. Make sure list your chosen swim route, pilot/observer and swim category (refer to official swim rules). Use the swimmer’s checklist to ensure that all the areas are covered.
Please take note: For marathon swims of more than 25km it is required to provide a medical along with your swim application, effective 1 July 2023. For more information, see this letter. Please download the medical assessment form to take to your doctor to complete. Please send the completed and signed medical cover form to medical@cldsa.co.za prior to your planned swim date. Medicals are valid for one year.
Benefits for registering your swim are the following: Unlimited free swim applications. Your swim authenticated by a CLDSA trained observer, entry into CLDSA public records, personalised electronic swim certificate, directly after swim record has been ratified, recognition at the CLDSA annual awards function, option to buy your personalised medal, entry into annual lucky draw with prizes to the value of R6000 and assistance with registering a swim record with Guinness World record.

Before the swim application is added to your bag, please acknowledge the following:
For safety reasons, the CLDSA recommends that you have done the following preparatory swim before doing a Robben Island crossing and any other equivalent long-distance cold-water swim:
- At least one open water swim of 5km (or longer)
- In water temperature of less than 16 degree Celsius
- With swimming time of more than one hour
We recommend that this swim is done in the one-month period leading up to the swim you would like to register for.
This recommendation is applicable to skins and wetsuit swims
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are medically fit and healthy to participate in this open water swim.
