Timed anti-clockwise early morning swim .
Choice of Long or Short route.
Challenging yet Fun (without or with a wetsuit)
Participants are affectionately known as ‘Tri-bears’
This swim is challenging. Swim around the course keeping the buoys on your left-shoulder. The route is from 4th to 1st and back. Timing stops when you pass the finish line on the beach. After the self-seeded wave start on the beach, enter the shallows and aim for the red roof house above the wide block of flats on Moses beach.
Pass shallow buoy 2 keep the buoy on your left shoulder (and swim deep enough not to be affected by waves) Left-shoulder turn around shallow buoy 3 and head for deep buoy 4. Expect swell movement to lift you. (After the deep buoy 4 left-shoulder turn) Aim for Duiker Rocks (aka South Paw) Expect heavy water, you are swimming back into the swell and will be swimming up small mountains.
Keeping deep buoy 5 on your left-shoulder continue towards Duiker Rocks. You should be a bit more protected from the swell now and you can make up some time.
Left-shoulder turn at deep buoy 6 and head for the beach. Remember timing stops when you cross the timing mat. Continue to the recorders desk and provide your Race number, Name and Category.
Short routes require the buoys to be repositioned – there are 2 routes.
Starting on the beach .. out to the deep buoy.. keep the buoy on the right shoulder and continue right around the course. Turn right and the next deep buoy and head back to the shallow buoy. Right turn at the shallow buoy and swim parallel to the beach to the next shallow buoy. Left-hand turn towards the beach.
Starting on the beach .. out to the deep buoy.. keep the buoy on the right shoulder and continue right around the course. Turn right and the next deep buoy and head back to the shallow buoy. Right turn at the shallow buoy and swim parallel to the beach to the next shallow buoy. Left-hand 180′ turnaround the buoy and reverse direction around the course. !!Watch out for swimmers in the opposite direction!!
